Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

Integrated Pest Management is the most popular choice for maintaining the health and vigor of landscapes. The goal of IPM is to maintain a healthy ecosystem in the landscape by creating a balance. The Mead Tree & Turf Care program is designed to maintain pest populations below a damaging level, in order to encourage beneficial insect populations. This is done through inspections and treatment of select plants using the least toxic, most effective treatment options. Organic programs are available.

Here are some highlights of our pest control programs:

  • Control pests and diseases on plants, shrubs, and trees up to a 20' range from four to 10 visits throughout the growing season
  • Trained technicians scout for cultural and biotic issues, such as drainage and sun and shade issues
  • Written reports are left so you're always aware of what's going on with your landscape
  • A great level of detail and knowledge that can be received as a part of this program

  • Mites
  • Dutch elm disease
  • Anthracnose
  • Gypsy moth
  • Ambrosia beetles
  • Scale insects
  • Phytophthora root rot

Soil Care and Nutrient Management

Tree and Shrub Fertilization

Healthy soil is essential to maintaining healthy trees and shrubs. Our landscaping experts can take a soil sample to determine the best nutrient management plan for your trees and shrubs. Our goal is to maximize nutrients that are already present in the soil and add nutrients that may be deficient.

Any successful nutrient management program begins with soil testing. Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc uses Maryland Department of Agriculture-approved labs for soil testing. We offer three different soil testing levels:

  • Basic: Organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and pH
  • Intermediate: same as the basic testing, plus zinc, manganese, iron, copper, sulfur, and boron
  • Advanced: Same as the intermediate testing, plus sodium and soluble salts

We also test

  • Soil texture (percent sand, silt, clay, and texture classification)
  • Lead and arsenic contamination

Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc has a variety of fertilization options to choose from for your landscaping needs in Howard County, MD, and surrounding areas. Based on your soil test, we can use synthetic treatments, such as fertilizer, or organic treatments, like bio-stimulants and compost teas.

Soil Amendments

In the urban environment, trees and shrubs face many challenges. Low organic matter and compacted soils are the two most common problems. Our experts will determine the best course of action to address soil structure issues. Using an AirSpade, we can perform vertical mulching or radial trenching. Through these procedures, we can reduce compaction while incorporating organic material.

Organic Turf Care Programs

As an industry leader, Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc offers the latest in organic turf care technology. As the field of organic turf care evolves in the industry, our company will continue to pilot new materials and methods. Soil testing is the basis for determining a nutrient management program and soil pH requirements. Weeds are spot-treated using reduced-risk herbicides. Core aeration and over-seeding treatments are also important cornerstones of our organic programs. Some pest issues, such as grubs and cutworms, can also be treated using reduced-risked pesticides under this program.

Turf Weed and Pest Control

Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc offers nutrient, weed, insect, and fungicide programs to meet all turf needs. You will receive soil testing as part of your turf programs to make accurate nutrient applications. Our company adheres to all Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia rules, regulations, and recommendations. Click here to check out photos of some common pests found in the area!

Turf Soil Care and Nutrient Management

Soil Testing

Any successful nutrient management program begins with soil testing. Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc uses labs approved by the Maryland Department of Agriculture for soil testing.

We also test:

  • Soil texture (percent sand, silt, clay, and texture classification)
  • Lead and arsenic contamination

Once we have reviewed your soil test, Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc can customize your turf care program to make sure the right fertilizer and other amendments are being applied at the appropriate time to maximize turf and soil health. We have organic programs.

Aeration and Over-Seeding

Core aeration is used to break compaction in turf grass and encourage a healthy root system while over-seeding will increase turf grass density. Aeration and over-seeding are usually performed together in either the spring or, more commonly, the fall. Mead Tree & Turf Care Inc uses quality Tall and Fine fescue blends when over-seeding. Aeration and over-seeding are essential to any successful turf program, both conventional and organic.
