The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is an international organization of tree care professionals dedicated to tree care research and on-going education for arborists and consumers. Arborists are trained professionals who are knowledgeable and equipped to provide proper tree care. They are specially trained to provide a variety of services to maintain trees. ISA Certified Arborists are individuals who have achieved a level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care through at least three years of experience, and have passed a comprehensive examination. They are also required to continue their education in order to maintain their certification, ensuring their knowledge is updated on the latest arboriculture techniques.
The ISA exam is an extensive evaluation that encompasses the follow topics: Soil, Water, and Nutrient Management, Tree ID/Selection, Installation and Establishment, Safe Work Practices, Tree Biology, Pruning, Diagnosis/Treatment, Urban Forestry, Protection and Preservation,Tree Risk Management. In addition, ISA Certified Arborists are required to complete 30 continuing education credits through universities courses, professional in-service conferences, and leadership activities (such as teaching seminars or writing articles) during the 3 year certification cycle.
