Tree Care Apprentice

All new employees are credentialed as a tree care apprentice the first week of employment. The tree care apprentice will become familiar with the tree care industry and with the safety procedures of Mead Tree & Turf Care, Inc. Once the employee successfully becomes credentialed as the tree care apprentice, the employer will map out the path for the new employee to become one of the following listed below:

  • Supervisor
  • Tree Care Specialist/Sales Representative
  • Crew Leader
  • Tree Climber Specialist
  • Ground Operations Specialist/Technician
  • Chemical Applicator

Supervisor

A supervisor has full responsibilities that may include hiring personnel as needed, crew scheduling, work supervision, and crew discipline up to and including termination. The supervisor must have a working knowledge of all equipment and work assigned to the crews. The supervisor reports all accidents or injuries.

Tree Care Specialist/Sales Representative

The Tree Care Specialist/Sales Representative handles all communication with the client and develops estimates and proposals for the work required. He or she must have first-hand knowledge of all tree care operations and may assist the supervisor in scheduling work. The Tree Care Specialist/Sales Representative must also provide the crew leader with directions to the job site, a detailed description of the work to be performed, a sketch of the property showing the proximity of the trees to be worked on (if applicable), and the estimated production hours for each job.

Crew Leader

The Crew Leader is responsible for daily activities and daily supervision of a crew. This person shall report to the supervisor concerning all problems, accidents, or injuries. The crew leader is responsible for all assigned equipment and enforces the equipment maintenance program. The Crew Leader trains new employees and makes sure that each new crew member is working safely and efficiently. In addition, the crew leader fills out daily crew reports and deals with the customer in the absence of the supervisor or sales representative.

We are currently seeking highly skilled crew foremen and climbers with a minimum of 5 years production experience. ISA Certified Arborist & CTSP is a plus. We are looking for individuals who possess a class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months, training and leadership abilities, above average climbing, aerial lift and pruning skills and advanced rigging and crane removal experience. Tree Climber Specialist

The Tree Climber Specialist is responsible for safe production, including but not limited to, tree climbing, pruning and tree removal. The climber is under the direct supervision of the crew leader.

Ground Operations Specialist/Technician

The Grounds Operations Specialist is responsible for all ground work, including the operation of various pieces of power equipment. This person frequently assists the crew leader with aspects of their work.

Chemical Applicator

The Chemical Applicator is responsible for applying insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other nutrients. This may also include, but is not limited to, mixing chemicals, proper storage of chemicals, filling out required paper work and record keeping. A Pest Control Applicator Certificate from the Maryland Department of Agriculture is required and must be renewed appropriately.

Aerial Lift Specialist

The Aerial Lift Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to, operating the aerial lift bucket, positioning the vehicle and out rigging, and using the controls and maintenance safely.
